Sept 6, 2010 --- Labor Day.

 

Sept 16-26 - "The Dixie Swim Club" --- (Five Southern women, whose friendships began years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other's lives. Sep 17-26, 2010 --- "SlowExposures" --- (This Fall marks the eighth year of SlowExposures --- Friday, September 17th through Sunday, September 26th, 2010. The photo exhibition, held at the R. L. Sept 21, 2010 --- "Barbra and Frank: The Concert that Never Was" ---- (It is unlikely that these two powerhouse voices of the century would have ever shared the same stage...until now. Sharon Owens stars as Barbra Streisand and Sebastian Anzaldo portrays Frank Sinatra. Oct 22-23 & 29-30, 2010 --- "The Haunted Theatre on Hill Street II: The Magic Show" --- (It's not a play, it's the haunted theatre that bedazzled and scared scores of kids and adults last fall. This year "The Haunted Theatre" returns to Hill Street with a new craving to make the hair on your neck stand up straight. It's loud, it's dark and it's very scary. It's not for the faint of heart. March 10-19, 2011 ---"Driving Miss Daisy" --- (The tenth season of Main Street Players opens with everyone's favorite Southern curmudgeon "Driving Miss Daisy," the play of a Druid Hills matron and her love/hate interaction with her chauffeur and their inter-twined lives in Atlanta in the ?40's. April 18, 2011 --- "Wind Soloists of New York" --- (The Wind Soloists of New York brings together the leading wind players from New York City to perform the major works for winds from 4 to 15 players. The repertoire for the ensemble includes piano and wind works by Mozart, Poulenc and Beethoven, the wind serenades and divertimenti by Mozart and Beethoven as well as larger scale works such as Dvorak's Serenade for Winds, Mozart's Gran Partita and Strauss's Serenade for Wind Instruments); presented by Griffin Area Concert Association, 770-227-6185, in the Griffin Auditorium.

May 12-22, 2011 --- "Tin Types" --- (With its time frame set between the turn of the 20th century and the onset of World War I, this chamber piece, with a singing-and-dancing cast of five, provides a musical history lesson focusing on an exciting period in American history. During this era, the country's population doubled, expanded by increased immigration that changed the cultural and ethnic makeup of the nation. The transcontinental railroad and Carnegie Hall were built, electricity and the telephone were introduced, Theodore Roosevelt became President of the United States, automobiles joined horse-drawn carriages on city streets, and children worked in factories for twenty-five cents a day.); Main Street Players, 115 North Hill Street, http://www.mainstreetplayers.org/; 770-229-9916.

June 24, 2011 --- "Army Jazz Band" --- (The United States Army's premier big band. This 19-member ensemble, formed in 1969, has received great acclaim both at home and abroad performing America's original art form, jazz. Concerts are designed to entertain all types of audiences. Custom compositions and arrangements highlight the group's creative talent and gifted soloists. Their diverse repertoire includes big band swing, bebop, Latin, contemporary jazz, standards, popular tunes, Dixieland, vocals, and patriotic selections); presented by Griffin Area Concert Association, 770-227-6185, in the Griffin Auditorium.
