Lamar Arts Inc. was founded in 1992 by Barnesville artist Carol "Cara" Wubbena. Since that time, Lamar Arts has established itself as the primary cultural advocacy group for the arts in Lamar County. Lamar Arts operates an Arts Center and Gallery in the historic Barnesville train depot, showcasing local and area artists and representing a variety of artistic media. Lamar Arts exposes the community to the fine arts through its exhibits, children's programs, classes and lectures, poetry readings and other artistic programs. This county-wide group collaborates with Gordon College to promote the arts through community musical theatrical productions and a highly regarded recital series. The organization strives to work with the public schools to enhance arts education and provide opportunities for emerging artists.
